Quilt Preparation
There are a few basic steps you can take to prepare your quilt, which will greatly assist the quilting process.
Call or email me info@qualitytimequilting.com if you have any questions.
- Press your quilt top so the seams lie flat and clip any loose threads. Repair any broken seams or possible mistakes.
- Tag the edge of the quilt top (and back) intended to be the top so it will be mounted and quilted appropriately.
- Remove the selvages from all fabrics as they shrink differently from the fabric and will cause puckering. The backing should be pieced if necessary and squared.
- Wavy borders do not mount easily and are difficult to quilt. When making borders be sure to measure your quilt first and cut top and bottom borders and side borders to fit rather than just sewing on a length of fabric and cutting off the excess.
- If the quilt top is pieced to the edge (no outside border), or if the fabric tends to fray easily, please stay-stitch slightly less than 1/4" all the way around the outside to keep the edges in place during quilting.
- Please do not pin or baste your quilt layers together - they will be all mounted separately.
- Your backing and batting must be at least 6 inches larger than your quilt top in both directions.
- Please do not bring your binding fabric with your quilt unless we are preparing it for you. Allow at least 12" more binding material than the perimeter of your quilt.
We carry quilt batting and a variety of threads at an additional cost.
